MUHAS Pathology Residents Shine at 2018 ASCP Annual Meeting

MUHAS residents, Drs. Marie Claire Ndayisaba, Asteria Kimambo, Advery Ngaiza, and Caroline Ngimba, with UCSF pathology mentors, Drs. Ron Balassanian and Dianna Ng at the ASCP 2018 Annual Meeting in Baltimore, MD

Dr. Asteria Kimambo, a second-year pathology resident at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS), was selected as a finalist in the Best Resident Poster Award Competition for the ASCP 2018 Annual Meeting in Baltimore, MD. Dr. Kimambo collaborates with Dr. Dianna Ng, Assistant Professor in the UCSF Department of Pathology, was selected for her abstract titled, "Validation of the GeneXpert® Breast Cancer STRAT4 Assay for Rapid Analysis of Breast Cancer Biomarker Status from Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsies in Tanzania (GX-BCB) Preliminary results." Drs. Marie Claire Ndayisaba, Caroline Ngimba, and Advera Ngaiza received merit awards to attend the ASCP meeting in Baltimore as well. All residents are pictured with UCSF pathology mentors, Drs. Ron Balassanian and Dianna Ng. 

Drs. Kimambo and Ndayisaba will present abstracts at the USCAP Annual Meeting in National Harbor, MD in March 2019. Dr. Kimambo will present her abstract described above, and Dr. Ndayisaba will present her abstract entitled, "High-Risk Histopathologic Features Analysis of Primary Enucleated Retinoblastoma in Tanzania Patients." They will be joined at the USCAP meeting by Dr. Ngaiza and Dr. Edda Vuhahula, pathology faculty at MUHAS, who received global travel awards to attend. Dr. Ndayisaba and Ngaiza were also appointed as USCAP Ambasadors earlier this ear.
