Global Cancer Program Announces Two New Associate Directors

Dr. Geoffrey Buckle, MD, MPH, and Dr. Rohini Jan, MDWe are excited to announce the appointment of two new Associate Directors to the Global Cancer Program (GCP), reinforcing our commitment to advancing collaborations through our Regional Hubs around the world.

Dr. Geoffrey Buckle, MD, MPH, has been appointed Associate Director for Collaborations – East Africa Region. Dr. Buckle is an Assistant Professor and gastrointestinal oncologist in the Division of Hematology/Oncology, specializing in the etiology, early detection, and treatment of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) in Eastern Africa. Since 2017, he has been a key collaborator in GCP research efforts in Tanzania, with a particular focus on developing novel strategies for early detection of ESCC. Dr. Buckle’s distinguished career has earned him numerous accolades recognizing his clinical and research excellence, including the ASCO Global Oncology Young Investigator Award, the HDFCCC Junior Clinical Investigator Award, and UCSF Impact Scholar Awardee. In his new role, he will advance continued growth of the MUHAS-ORCI-UCSF cancer collaboration, with a vision towards sustainability and continued innovation in cancer care delivery.

Dr. Rohini Jain, MD, joins as Associate Director for Collaborations – Southeast Asia Region. Dr. Jain is an Assistant Clinical Professor in Pediatric Oncology at UCSF with clinical expertise in lymphoma and histiocytic disorders. Her recognitions include induction into the Gold Humanism and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Societies, the Medical Educators Institute Award from the American Society of Hematology, and the DEIA Mini-Grant Award from the HDFCCC. Dr. Jain is currently collaborating with VinUni in Vietnam on projects related to palliative care and patient navigation. In her new role, Dr. Jain will lead efforts to strengthen pediatric oncology education in Vietnam and to expand collaborations in pediatric oncology and transplant therapy throughout the Southeast Asia region.
